Our area is know for elk, mule deer, bear and the occasional mountain lion. In fact, Garth Carter of the "Huntin Fool Magazine" rated our area a good area for bucks and if selected as a second choice you don't need to
use any of your preference points and are most likely to draw a tag.

1.  Our 2,000 sq. ft. log cabin is located on a National Scenic Byway on County Road 8 and is surrounded on three sides by Routt National Forest which 15 miles away borders the Flat Top Wilderness area in Northwest
Colorado.

2.  Our immediate area (within 7 miles) is accessible only by foot or horse.  We have a corral on the premises (at the cabin).

We are located at 8400 feet elevation roughly and the highest elevation in the area goes up to approx. 12,400 but the majority of the elk are at 9,000-10,500 during the summer.  It is heavily wooded with open meadows throughout.  It is not an easy area to hunt, but also not overly strenuous either.  It can be what you want it to be, but is more on the moderate to difficult side rather than glassing hills and flat lands from the hood of a pick-up.
